Devigarh

The imposing walls of Devigarh Fort

28 km NE of Udaipur, Fort Devigarh is nestled in the wee town of Delwara in the Aravalli mountains. It is one of the three main passes into the valley of Udaipur. The old fort has been recently converted into a heritage property and is considered as one of the best designed hotels in India.
The fort was originally a palace to Maharaja Raghudev Singh II, which was rebuilt in 1760 for the royal visit of the Maharani of Udaipur. The history of the fort is greatly associated with Maharana Pratap who controlled the fort. After the battle of Haldighati the fort came under the control of Raja Sajja Singh who served as the lieutenant of Maharana Pratap. It remained unoccupied for over centuries and then was acquired by the Poddars, the industrial family of Shekhawati in 1964.It took over 15 years to have it restored and converted into one of the finest hotels in India.
