Ambaji

The temple of Ambaji
On the borders of Gujarat and Rajasthan 45 km from Mt. Abu, lies Ambaji – a major Shakti Peeth which is home to Goddess Amba. In this holy shrine, the goddess is worshipped in the form of Shree Visa Yantra and there is no idol of the goddess. The original place of Ambaji is on the Gabbar hill, a few km away. Diwali is the best time to visit here to see the entire temple lit up with diyas – a sight to remember for life time.

Legends talk about 51 ancient Shakti Peethas in India, of which 12 are considered to be the most sacred. Ambaji happens to be one of these 12. It is said that Devi Sati’s heart fell on the holy hill of Gabbar and since then it has been worshipped as the Center of Cosmic Power. 999 steps lead you atop this hill which houses the original shrine of Ambaji. A holy lamp constantly burns here facing the Shri Visa Yantra in the Nijmandir of Shri Ambaji.
